What district-based options are available for all professional staff and paraprofessionals to meet the highly qualified goal?
The district is currently offering leadership studies for future administrators through Furman University and a program in mathematics for middle school teachers through USC-Spartanburg, and a comprehensive staff development program designed to assist all instructional personnel in teaching and learning strategies, data collection and analysis, and related topics. Programs in middle school Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies through Furman University, and a paraprofessional program to assist these employees with the test of content and pedagogy stipulated as one of the options to obtain the highly qualified standard are under development and projected to begin early in 2003. Furthermore, the district will soon offer a tuition-reimbursement program available to personnel who take approved courses leading to highly qualified status, and is working with Greenville Tech to design specific Associate of Arts programs for paraprofessionals.
