What do resolution and repeatability mean?
These two parameters are used in our tiltmeter and clinometer data sheets to describe their performance. Resolution is defined as the least interval between two adjacent discrete details which can be distinguished one from the other. Tiltmeter resolution is the smallest angular change that can be measured consistently and reliably. Repeatability is defined as the closeness of agreement of a number of consecutive measurements of the output for the same value of the input under the same operating conditions, approaching from the same direction, for full range traverses. For tiltmeters the input is angular movement, applied by tilting a platform by known amounts.
