What Do The Ancient Texts Tell Us?
As we’ve mentioned before, the Biblical texts are pretty vague about the antediluvian world. There are hints here and there about conditions, but nothing quite clear; no history is really mentioned. There are some people, including myself who would like to know more about the times in which these things happened. There are some well known books that talk a little about the history of these times, as that history has been passed down by tradition and in writings. A couple of these books are the writings of Josephus and also that of Philo; both historians of a high caliber. These two writers are accepted by both Jews and Christians alike and they are referred to in many works. Another book that receives less recognition is the book of Enoch. It was revered by the Jewish community, from about 400 BCE till about 400 CE, as being a historical book.
