What do the following file extensions mean?
PDF – Adobe Acrobat Reader file; Best used for referance art. SIT – Stuff-it Expander file (commonly used by Mac users, The Mac form of Winzip), allows you to group and compress one or multiple files together DAT – A Corrupt file; This type of file is created when a Mac user sends art (fonts are the best example) via E-mail or a type of disk (CD, Zip, Jaz, Floppy, ect…) to a PC user and the PC user opens it. This is best avoided by using Stuffit Expander to “protect” the Mac files so they can travel anywhere and still be used (taking into account that the method of transportaion doesn’t corrupt it on the way). ZIP – WinZip file (Commonly used by PC users), is a way PC users group and compress files together. (ZIP files can be opened in Stuff-it Expander for the Mac, but you cannot open a SIT file in WinZip) PSD – Adobe Photoshop file CDR – Corel Draw file CPT – Corel Photopaint file AI – Adobe Illustrator file QXD – Quark Express document file TTF – True Type Fonts JPG, JPEG, TIF, TI
