What do u think about the cambrian explosion?
THE CAMBRIAN EXPLOSION IS REAL The Cambrian Explosion occured about 540 million years ago (the numbers bounce around 5-10 my with new data dating the rocks in which fossils are found) and refers to the evolution and diversification of major body plans like the arthropod body plan, mollusc body plan, etc. There are number of hypotheses about why this happened at this time-some suggest a that the evolution of burrowing organisms opened up a new can of worms so to speak and exploited new habitats. Another hypothesis suggests that the evolution of metazoans allowed diversification to occur because it opened up new environments and new ways to “package” energy. Others propose environmental factors, though these are less supported by scientific data. I recommend reading “The Origin of Phyla” by Jim Valentine (UC Berkeley), a well respected paleontologist.
