As a Canadian woman, I am honoured to sing our national anthem as it currently is. I interpret the line “all our sons command” to represent unity and that we (men, women, Canadians) are all the same – standing to represent and protect our land. With regards to “native land” – it is our native land. Period. I’m sure all of our Canadian immigrants have their own anthem with which they honour their own native land, so why is it so offensive that Canada acknowledges those who were here from the beginning? Lastly, “God keep our land, glorious and free” – why not have a little help keeping our land glorious and free? Even for those who do not believe, what’s the harm in the possibility of a helping hand, on our side, keeping Canada safe? We as Canadians can be much too accommodating, especially to those who push their way around here in our country with very little respect for our land. Good choice to keep our anthem authentic.
