What do you think of sigmund freud in his theory of personality?

I do agree- Freud was crazy and many of his findings wouldn’t be considered scientific by today’s standards. BUT….his theory of personality is very interesting. And, it does still have some valid applications. Marketers use it all the time. Credit card companies try to appeal to our id’s desire for instant gratification, while university marketing campaigns often focus on the ego’s ability to mediate the id and superego- showing students learning (superego) and having fun (id). Some general research techniques used by social scientists (psychology, sociology, marketing research, etc.) today, such as projective technique and in-depth interviews, really developed out of psychoanalytic theory. So I guess we do have Freud to thank for that as well.
