What does 1n, 2n, diploid and haploid number of chromosomes mean?
1n = haploid 2n = diploid 1n is the number of chromosomes in the gametes (and gametophytes in plants). 2n is the numberof chromosomes in the zygote after fertilization and in the mature individual that develops from the zygote. In plants his would be the sporophyte. Examples: In humans, 1n=23, 2n=46. In corn, 1n=10, 2n=20.
