What does a camera detector do?
There are two types of camera detectors: GPS Safety Camera location warning devices hold a database of Government publicised fixed (and sometimes mobile) camera locations. They do not detect anything. These devices compare your current GPS position with the known position of a location in their database, and warn you if you are approaching one of these areas. Radar and Laser detectors are designed to sense the frequency of transmissions from Police Radar and Laser speed detection equipment (Radar and Laser Guns and some fixed cameras, e.g. Gatso) and alert you to their presence.
