What does classification mean?
When registering a trademark you need to specify the products and services that will be connected with your trademark. Classification is an administrative measure calculated to support the process of searching. The Trade mark Act permits separate registration for marks in respect of each of 42 categories of goods and services laid down in the international classification of goods and services which was recognized in accordance with the NICE arrangement of 1957 and its subsequent revisions. Insofar as many classes are wide, the applicant is expected to specify the goods and services within a class for which registration is considered. The registrar has a final power to decide the class in which particular goods and services are to be located.
