What does cluster development mean? How is it different from redevelopment of individual buildings?
Cluster development considers taking a large area of urban area and redeveloping it on a holistic basis taking care of all aspects of development, specifically the increase and augmentation of infrastructure. The development is done keeping in mind a number of common facilities which are shared by residents in a close neighborhood of walking distance. Redevelopment of individual buildings only looks at the actual land on which a building or 2-3 adjoining buildings stand. Individual redevelopment does not take into account the width of existing roads, parking requirement in the new buildings, solid waste management and sewage and hygiene requirements for the overall area. Such a redevelopment can often cause inconvenience to neighbour’s and people within a close vicinity. In a cluster redevelopment the larger needs of the area can be looked into.
