What does Code Red Mean (Fire Brigade)?
Not sure what the meaning of fire brigade using “code red” is, but it’s also a term used by Police in Australia as well. Police can use the term “code red” over the radio to indicate they are attending the scene using lights and sirens (speeding to get there). This is normally reserved for serious, life threatening situations – where they may believe that someone was trapped inside your burning shed. This is opposed to “code blue” which means they are responding without lights and sirens and travelling at the posted speed limit. They let the police dispatcher know how they are responding to an incident, as too many vehicles speeding to the scene could be a serious public safety issue for other road users. Edit: I did find some info online about QLD Fire Brigade and their radio codes, where “code red” is used to interrupt all other radio transmissions to pass on information that is “life critical” or urgent. It requires all other radio users to be quiet until the “code red” is lifted.
