The spiritual lessons learned from sacrifice were far more valuable than the cost of physical loss. In the Old Testament scriptures, those faithful to God were required to give sacrifices from their livestock which were of value to them. Thus to recompense God for sins committed there was a cost and therefore a lesson learned by the faithful. These spiritual lessons would be far more valuable than the counting of the cost of physical loss. Having taught this lesson in Old Testament times God himself graciously gave mankind the ultimate sacrifice of his own beloved son so that we could understand the meaning of Christs death for our salvation.
