What does it mean if there is a low score for group 2 molds?
An ERMI score is calculated by subtracting the sum of the logs of Group 1 molds from the sum of the logs for Group 2 molds. When Group 2 molds have a low sum, the ERMI score, itself, is less reliable. This usually indicates that the fungal ecology of the inside environment has not come to equilibrium with the outside fungi. This is usually found for homes that are fairly new and have not been populated by fungal spores from outside of the home. However, individual quantifications of each mold species are accurate and reliable. These individual quantifications can be compared to the averages found in the initial HUD survey to determine if there is a mold problem.
