The ERMI score is based on a study of dust samples from 1100 homes across the U.S. Therefore, an ERMI score will not be applicable to swabs or bulk materials. However, individual quantifications of each mold species are accurate and reliable. These individual quantifications can be compared to the averages found in the initial HUD survey to determine if there is a mold problem.
