WHat does it mean when my stool has a fresh bright red blood with it?
Any blood in your stool should be investigated – there is a remote possibility it could be bowel cancer if you’re over 40. BUT, if it is bright red the most likely explanation is that you have hemorrhoids or an anal fissure and that when you pass a bowel movement you are causing the bleeding. This is especially likely if you’ve had constipation recently. These things will sometimes clear up on their own and you can buy an over the counter preparation to use. Don’t panic, I’m sure there is a very simple explanation.
