What does it take to make the speaker look good?
Carlozzi: To make a speaker look good, you have to start by understanding the same basics necessary to produce any effective communication: • The subject, the speaker’s relationship to it, and its relationship to the event at which the speech will be delivered: • Who the audience is and the interest in and knowledge of the topic, their expectations, their biases, etc.; • The speaker’s relationship to the audience; and • The objectives for the speech (both the speaker’s objectives and the objectives of the organization that’s invited the speaker to speak) because they can be different.
