What does modularity mean?
It means that each hardware option is a module that can be plugged in to the system to add more capability of the XLi system. With each added option the XLi becomes capable of more features and can serve more functions. However, adding the hardware requires software recognition, so the software controlling the system is also modular. So, when an option is plugged-in, the XLi operating system recognizes it and launches the software module to operate that hardware option. This is a great feature that enables customers to buy options after they have purchased the XLi system. They can plug them in, power up the XLi, and the system will automatically add the new option to its configuration and launch its corresponding software module, in effect, modularity is a complete “Plug and Play” feature in the XLi.
