What does PanLex do about languages with multiple writing systems?
It is possible to mix writing systems within a variety. This is reasonable if a language uses different writing systems for different expressions (e.g., using a foreign writing system for foreign expressions). It is possible to use one writing system for the texts of the expressions of a variety, while also recording the same texts in other writing systems as expression metadata. This is reasonable if there is a single writing system in which all expressions can be written and there are other writing systems in which all or some expressions can be written. One benefit provided by this method is to permit a person to assign a meaning to an expression once and to have that assignment automatically apply to all written forms of the expression. It is possible to add varieties of a language for its distinct writing systems. This is reasonable if each expression can be written in each writing system and the meanings of expressions depend in part on the writing systems in which the expression
