What does Syria think of Secretary of State Clinton and Mideast envoy George Mitchell?
Moustapha: We have the greatest respect for both. Secretary Clinton is a first-class politician that has proved herself during the campaign as a very tough politician who is determined and knows exactly what she wants, and we think she’s an addition to the Obama administration. I think (Mitchell’s) history talks more than words. He has proven himself in the past to be dedicated to the mission of making peace, he has achieved results in the past, particularly with Ireland. He’s a man of integrity and honesty. We are so hopeful that his role as the U.S. special envoy to the Middle East will end up with a major change in the paradigm in our region.
