What does TBN Stand for?
The Total Base Number signifies the ability of an oil to handle acidity. The higher the number the greater that ability. A good start is 8 to 10 but some marine oils may go as high as 70 to handle very high sulphur fuels, which are bought off oil tankers that cruise the oceans of the world awaiting a destination.
