What does this christian symbol mean?
In the early days of Christianity, when Christians were suffering severe persecution, it was a symbol of recognition. Let’s say that you, a Christian, were to go into a local inn for something to eat. Someone sits at your table. You’d like to be friendly, but you aresn’t sure it would be safe. So, you idly draw an arch on the table with your finger. Your table mate looks at it for a second. He will probably shrug his shoulders and ignore it…but, if he is also a Christian, he will draw the other arch, thus completing the symbol…and the two of you will wander off to a more private place to talk and get acquainted with one another.
