The DOC Sustainability Committee has been meeting monthly and is working diligently to educate the department on sustainability issues and to begin implementation of their target goals. The committee’s goals have been incorporated into the department’s outcome measures for 2001-2003. Additionally, specific committee recommendations are currently being drafted into department policy. Goals (to be reached by 1/1/2001) include: Reduce by 10% energy consumption. Reduce by 25% waste to landfills. Reduce by 25% institutional water consumption. Reduce by 10% wastewater flow rates and surcharges. Increase by 20% the volume of material recycled. Immediate efforts include, but are not limited to: collection of baseline information proposal to reduce consumption/waste develop policy changes implementation of new policies Where will the Department of Corrections go from here?
