What evaluation and reevaluation codes should physical therapists be using?
97001 (Physical therapy evaluation) and 97002 (Physical therapy re-evaluation) were added to CPT in 1998. Prior to that time, physical therapists had no choice but to utilize the evaluation and management codes in the 99200 series. However, now they are encouraged to utilize the single level evaluation and re-evaluation codes in the 97000 series.
