What exactly does a Forensic Psychologist do?
A Forensic Psychologist can do many things, depending on their interest (and how you define it :)) They can go into rehabilitation programs to help stop sex offenders from offending upon release (or any criminal infact, I say sex offenders cause thats what I want to do :)) They can assess children in cases where child custody is being disputed, giving their opinion on things like if the child is being abused or where would they be better off. In the courts they can also do assessments on if the person is ‘insane’ so if they are capable of standing trial or should go to a mental health facility instead of prison. They can help young people who are in court, making sure that they understand what is going on etc. Profiling is possible, but really it is a very small group of people who do this type of job, and most tend to have a Police/FBI background as well. Teaching and research is another option.
