What exactly is the difference between an “Escort” and a “Place” Card?
Although “Place Card” is the terminology most commonly used for both, there is a difference between the two and surprisingly, most of the time it is used incorrectly. • Escort Cards are placed on a main table at a centralized location, primarily at or near the entrance of a reception, where guests can easily access them. Printed on each card is the the guest’s name and their table assignment. These cards are normally arranged on the reception table in alphabetical order by last name so that the guest can easily find their seating assignment. • Place Cards are very similar to escort cards in appearance but they do not contain table assignment information on them. The guest’s name is primarily the only information printed on place cards and they are placed directly at the guest’s assigned place setting.
