What factors contribute to the functioning or failure of wastewater treatment plants in Developing Countries?
The research will investigate the institutional, physical, political and economic reasons behind the decisions to construct treatment plants as well as the factors that influence their current functional status. The work will be undertaken in Asia (India and Pakistan) and Africa (Ghana). The outcome will be a better understanding of what contributes to the effective management of wastewater treatment plants in large urban areas, and will lead to recommendations for more effective and sustainable planning and management of wastewater treatment facilities.
