What factors influenced the competency level benchmark for the Vocational Graduate Diploma of Cardiac Electrophysiology?

The role of an EP scientist/technician is vital and can influence the clinical outcome of a patient, including improving efficacy and potentially resulting in clinical complications, morbidity and mortality. For this reason the CEPIA faculty decided to set and maintain high clinical standards which are designed to improve the professional standing of the field and result in increased knowledge and improved clinical ability. To achieve competency at a level lower than what is stipulated is not sufficient, and does not convey a true understanding of the knowledge and skills required to be competent in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. A competency-based system was chosen over the bell curve method to ensure that all graduates possess a level of competency that satisfies the industry standard rather than just allowing a proportion of students to obtain a grading at any level.
