BrokerTrak is unlike other mainframe and PC based systems in current production. Of all the systems BCS has surveyed, every one originated as an in-house application for a particular broker-dealer. They were then marketed in an effort to recapture part or all of the development costs. The flaw inherent in such an approach is that a firm adopting such software is compelled to conduct their accounting functions as a mirror image of the originating firm since the software enforces the methods and manners of conducting business. BrokerTrak began life as a service bureau product. Its non-idiosyncratic approach to the business model coupled with a simple checkbox approach to toggling various behaviors on and off allows a firm to continue conducting business in the manner it understands and still obtain the benefits of a wide range of features.
