What goes into making a good doughnut?

For Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., a new and improved corporate intranet is part of the recipe. While the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based doughnut maker continues its plans to expand into the northeastern U.S., its IT department has just completed a revamp of the company’s 4-year-old intranet. Employees can now access current training information, check the local weather and take company surveys — all using a Weblike interface linked to company headquarters and every store in the chain using a virtual private network (VPN). It all took about a month, “from tee to green,” said Krispy Kreme CIO Frank Hood. The new portal, called MyKrispyKreme, was built on software from Corechange Inc. in Boston. Company managers can look at productivity statistics by week, month or year, order new supplies and train new employees through the portal. While the older intranet had limited capabilities, the newer version, for example, allows end users to view financial documents through a WYSIWIG HTML editing tool
