The Great Depression began – Hitler and Roosevelt both became the leaders of their nation in 1932. Hitler soon began violating the terms of the Versailles Treaty. Britain/France allowed a policy of appeasement to let Hitler get away with such violations, in the purpose of preventing another world war. On September 1st, 1939, Nazi troops officially invaded Poland and Britain/France declared war. America officially joined the war after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941 “day of infamy”).
