What Happened in the Burma Cyclone?
The Burma cyclone, named Nargis, hit the country on May 2, 2008, causing a number of deaths and widespread destruction throughout the nation. As the largest natural disaster in known Burmese history, the Category 4 cyclone completely wiped out a number of towns and villages, especially in the southwest. One of the major problems with the relief effort following the Burma cyclone was the fact that the nation’s government denied immediate help and closely controlled the agencies responsible for recovery.
