What happened to Gilbert from 1980 through 1989?
As every GOS fan knows, Gilbert in 1976 was frustrated with Gordon Mills and he wanted to experiment with new producers. Gordon was unhappy with this and Gilbert self-produced “Southpaw” and in 1980 he officially departed MAM, signed with CBS and entered into a long litigation process. Gilbert says: “From about 1981 to 1985, until I won my lititgation, it was a rough time. It meant that I could write, of course, writers never stop writing. I continued to write and I continued to record at home. There was a that awful period from eighty-one right up to the time that I released the next album ‘In the Key of G’ in England in 1989.
