What happens during retrieval?
Your retrieval will take place during an outpatient procedure in the doctor’s office. Depending on the individual IVF center either a general anesthetic or local sedation is used during the procedure. Either way you will be in a very relaxed state during the procedure. You may feel some discomfort, but you will not be in pain during your retrieval. The procedure will take approximately15-30 minutes. There are no incisions involved in the retrieval of your eggs because your eggs will be retrieved vaginally. The eggs will be transferred immediately to the embryology laboratory and you will be sent to the recovery room. Each doctor/clinic will explain the various medical risks and side-effects in detail at their meeting with you. How will I feel following my retrieval? Following retrieval
