If your program has shifted to using the new Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) racial/ethnic identification categories, you can still use the CSWE categories. Since our categories were already more detailed than those traditionally used by IPEDS, no new categories had to be added. A chart detailing how the new IPEDS categories are related to the CSWE categories is below. If you have further questions, ask the research assistant for help. New IPEDS Categories Related CSWE Categories 1) Nonresident Alien Add to Foreign (no resident visa) [separate question from race/ethnicity]. If race/ethnicity is unknown, also add to the “Unknown” category.
