What is a blocking diode?
A ‘diode’ is a circuit element which theoretically has zero resistance to current flowing one way and infinite resistance to current flowing the other. It is, if you like, a one way valve. It is also called a ‘diode rectifier’. In the case of photovoltaics, a ‘blocking diode’ is a diode connected in series between solar cells and storage batteries to keep the batteries from discharging through the cells when there is low or no output. ie. at night 03N) What is a hybrid system?
