What is a Calcium Chloride Test?
The calcium chloride vapor emission test was developed many years ago to determine the amount of moisture vapor radiating from a concrete slab surface over a determined period of time. This test is widely used by the Floor Covering Industry as the primary measure of moisture acceptability for the entire floor covering industry. Use this test to determine the amount of moisture that emits from a 1000 square feet of concrete slab surface in 24 hours. The test results are expressed in pounds which is the amount of the weight of the water which is emitted as vapor over the same 1000 square feet in a 24 hour period. What do I do with the results? The results of this test will determine if you need to either wait for a longer period of time before installing flooring on a new concrete slab or if you may need to seal the floor prior to your installation. If the moisture content is high you will almost always be guaranteed a flooring failure. For existing floors most of the time the slab will
