A call center is traditionally defined as a physical location where calls are placed or received in high volume. This may be for the purpose of sales, marketing, customer service, telemarketing, technical support, or other specialized business activities. Call centers are generally designed as large rooms with workstations comprising a computer, a telephone set (or headset) hooked into a large telecom switch, and one or more supervisor stations. It may operate independently, or link with other centers, or a corporate data network that utilizes mainframes, microcomputers and/or LANs. In some centers, the voice and data pathways into the center are connected through computer-telephony integration (CTI). Qwest Web Contact Center represents the first call center offering from Qwest.
