What is a cavity filling like?
I’ve watched many fillings done by the dentist and it’s the second easiest dental procedure (cleaning is the easiest). When you go in they will first give you a topical, wich is like a cherry popsicle that will make the area where it was places a little bit numb. After, comes the anesthesia. This should not be so bad considering how you have already had the topical. They would normally wait a little bit for you to be fully numb to start the work. The dentist begins by drilling out the cavity and making sure all is clean before he procedes to the next step. This first part normally involves lots of water but the assistant should take good care of you. Next, comes the filling. Depeding on which type of filling you’re getting, white or silver, the procedures are different. You have no worries though, this is quite simple since the dentist is only filling back the whole he made. Finally, he will polish your tooth, and make sure your bite is comfortable. And there you have it!
When a Dentist places a filling in a tooth with decay (cavity) He will first get the tooth numb. This is done with an injection, only feels like pinch- nothing to worry about. Then he will use his hand-piece (drill) that sprays water to remove the area of the tooth that has decay in it. Then he will either pack amalgam (silver filling) or Composite (white filling) material inside the area that has been removed. He will shape the filling material to match the tooth, if it is white filling material he will shine a light on it to harden it. He will then check the bite with a carbon-type paper adjust and polish the filling, then You will be done. Very simple and painless process so don’t worry. Hope this helps.
