The Intel Centrino platform is a marketing initiative whereby manufacturers could earn a product labeling as Centrino by combining an approved mainboard chipset, mobile CPU and wireless network. These laptops also had several price controls in order to make them more competitive with AMD products such as the Athlon and Sempron. The Centrino was also launched with a $300 million dollar advertising campaign, one of the largest brand launches in Intel history.
