What is a convertible crib?
A. There are basically two types of conversion cribs. One type has a dropside, or a sliding gate, that is a crib and then it converts to a toddler bed. The second type usually has a stationary gate and this will be a crib, then convert to a toddler day bed and then convert to the full size double bed.
A convertible crib is one that may be used for many years after the nursery. Most cribs will be able to be used in three stages: 1.Crib for infants 2.Toddler Daybed 3.Full size bed. There are a few models of cribs that we carry that convert to a twin size. All cribs will have a mattress support that can adjust from 3 to 4 heights according to the stage of development of your child. Some crib manufacturers offer a toddler guard rail that will attach to the front of the crib once it has been converted to a toddler day bed for extra security. In some cases, the toddler guard rail is included by the manufacturer with the original crib purchase. Please ask one of our friendly sales associates if a crib you like comes with a toddler guard rail, or if a toddler guard rail is available to purchase at an additional cost.
A convertible crib is a baby crib, purchased for an infant, that can be converted to either a toddler bed or twin size bed as the child grows. If the convertible crib carries the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) seal of approval, it meets all safety standards. If the convertible crib was manufactured before 1998, the crib should be tested for safety by the buyer. The things to look inspect closely include: 1. No rough metal edges. Teething rails should be replaced. 2. Latches and locks are in good, mechanical working order. The adjustable side rail should slide easily and lock into the desired position. 3. Typically, once a toddler reached the two year mark, parents took down the baby crib and placed their child in a regular sized bed. With the invention of the convertible crib, however, the bed actually gets used for a much longer period of time because it converts to a toddler or even full-size bed.
