WHAT IS A CREDIT CHECK AND WHO PERFORMS THEM?
Your credit report is made up of information from companies with which you have credit and from governmental agencies, including the court system. You have a right to a copy of your credit report which must contain all information in the file at the time of your request. You have the right to a free copy of your credit report if the credit check is used to deny you credit; you must request the copy within 60 days of being refused credit. You also have the right to dispute any information found in the credit check if you believe it is not correct or factual.
