What is a Data Controller?
A data controller processes a data subjects personal data. The DPA requires that a data subject is made aware of the identity of the data controller (e.g. an NHS Trust or a Bank) along with the purpose(s) for which their information will be processed. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) is a data controller. Staff working in the Trust are required to comply with the DPA. Each Data Controller may nominate a Data Protection Officer who can assist with any queries.
