What is a Declaration of Security (DoS)?
A Declaration of Security is an agreement reached between a ship and a port facility, or a ship and another ship, when they interface. It details the respective security measures each will undertake. A DoS may be requested either by a Ship Security Officer (SSO) or a PFSO and might be requested, for example, when a ship is at a higher Security Level than a port facility. However, the precise circumstances under which a DoS should be requested will be determined by TRANSEC and the MCA and guidance provided to industry in due course.
