What is a Gateway Account and Why Do I Need One to Process Online Transactions?
The gateway allows ShoppingQ to post credit card transactions from your store to your merchant account through the Internet. Think of the “gateway” as the “pipeline” that connects your merchant account with your online store. The gateway is normally provided by a third party processing company, which may or may not be the same company that provides your merchant account. Without the gateway, it is not possible to automatically post credit card transactions from your online ShoppingQ store to your merchant account. You would have to process the captured credit card orders manually using web-based or PC-based processing software. IMPORTANT: the gateway account must be compatible with BOTH your merchant account and with ShoppingQ. While it’s true you can obtain an Internet merchant account through any number of companies, you need to be sure it supports one of the processing gateways listed below. Otherwise, the merchant account will not work with your ShoppingQ online store.
