What is a good, relatively easy and preferably free solution to create websites using the Mac platform?
Well if your Mac was purchased recently or if you have upgraded iLife recently, you will have a copy of Apple’s iWeb, which is a WYSIWYG editor. I really can’t recommend it for anything over personal family web sites however, as the code it generates is pretty horrible. It also turns a lot of your text into images so that it appears exactly how you want it to, but this makes it invisible to search engines, screen readers, copy/pasting, etc. It is very easy to use however, it is much like a page layout program such as Pagemaker or Indesign. You just click and drag things wherever you want and it stays there. Like I said though, the code it generates is horrible. I purchased Rapidweaver at one point and was fairly impressed with it.
