There are two things I do with my students (mind you they are much younger) that really seem to work. 1. When students start talking, I start writing names on the board, or if there are a lot talking I write initials. I try to do this, especially when they are not paying attention so that they don’t start to alter their friends. The students I do not write down get some sort of treat (extra credit is always a good one). My students have learned that they do not want to be a part of that list. 2. When students start talking or getting off task, I tell them all to stand up and I have some sort of brain break. I have them stretch out or do something physical to get their minds fresh again. Its amazing the difference you will see afterward. Lastly, I would tell you to also talk to your cooperating teacher about what he or she does. That person is your best asset. I hope this helps!
