What is a parallax, and word usage?
A parallax is the difference in context between any two viewpoints. This term can be used philosophically, between metaphorical “viewpoints” but most often it is used in Astronomy to measure distances of stars. The earth rotates the sun, and if we take two pictures of a star from a telescope at two different times, we can use the difference in the background stars and the distance we know the earth traveled in the period of time to determine the third leg of the triangle and solve for the actual distance to the star.
