What is a Parallel Event?
Parallel events are sustainable development events/activities taking place outside of the WSSD venue (Sandton Convention Center) but within Johannesburg, or elsewhere in South Africa, between 10th August and 10th September. For example, the Global Peoples Forum and Ubuntu Village are parallel events. JOWSCO, the Summit hosts, have had a process of allocating space to, and recognizing, official parallel events (which are entitled to such benefits as volunteers support, linkages to registration and logistics system, etc.). However, there will also be many unofficial events running in parallel to the WSSD.
