What is a parallel plug?

0

A parallel plug means that it will plug into a standard outlet with 15 amp breaker. Some units draw more than 15 amps and will have one prong of the plug at 90 degrees to the other. This is a safety measure to prevent someone from plugging it in to a circuit that doesn’t have sufficient current. If you did happen to plug it in it would most likely just trip the breaker or blow a fuse but it could also cause the circuit wiring to overheat and cause a fire. Since air conditioners draw a lot of current they should always be on a dedicated circuit. In other words, the breaker or fuse should supply only only the receptacle that the unit is plugged in to.
